A sample of how you and your family can enjoy the event:
Before you come– Download the iNaturalist app, create an account and join the “Pink Beds BioBlitz” project. You can practice using the app in your backyard.
10:00am-Arrive to the Cradle of Forestry in America Discovery Center, get checked in at the gift shop and talk with any of our hosts about the schedule for the day.
10:15am– Head out the back of the Discovery Center and buy a $5 bucket to mine with Pisgah Forest Gem Mining.
10:45am-Walk over to the Pink Beds Picnic Area via the gravel cut-thru and visit the information booth to sign up for a walk. You see there is a can’t miss mushroom walk at 11:00am
10:55am– Meet your guide for your mushroom walk. Keep a sharp eye!
12:30pm-Return. Relax at a picnic table and enjoy your packed lunch.
1:00pm– Explore on your own. Visit with booths, check out the species count for the day, use your iNaturalist to discover other nearby plants and animals. The identification booth can help you with any questions.
2:00pm Head back over to the Cradle of Forestry. If you still have the energy, then check out the Biltmore Campus Trail with its historic buildings. Or venture on the Forest Festival Trail and ring the bell on the 1915 logging train.
